We are drawn to the wisest teachers, seeking answers to those
dilemmas that trouble us deeply. But authentic teachers invariably
turn us back into our hearts, with renewed faith in our own process
for discovering the wisdom within; for it is in our hearts that disquiet arises, and
therein will it find its resolution.

Pauling was personally responsible for the modern
view of the chemical bond. In the 1950s, he was also a
powerful advocate for restraint in testing and development of

Hormesis is the tendency of a biology organism to
over-compensate to stress, so the organism paradoxically does better
than one that isn’t stressed. Lab animals live longer if they’re
exercised, if they’re starved or exposed to low doses of toxins or
radiation, or disease or heat or cold or physical injury.
It seems we were designed for challenge.

have choices. Though I've never been dumb
enough to believe that was literally true, I've also never been dumb

or not believe, that the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends
toward justice."

"Grant me the serenity to accept what I cannot change, the
strength to change what I can, and the chuzpah to err on the side of

The personal as political is an old idea:
If you want to awaken all of
humanity, then awaken all of yourself.
If you want to eliminate the
suffering in the world, then eliminate
all that is dark and negative in yourself.
Truly, the greatest gift you have to give is that of your own transformation.
